Activities and Experiences
Our Wealth of Resources and Play Opportunities
At each Out of School Experience we have specific areas known as “continuous provision”. These are set areas, each with a variety of well thought out resources and play opportunities, which complement children’s learning in school whist providing opportunities for them to relax and enjoy their time with their friends.
Each area is based on what we know about the children at our club, and their age and stage of development.
Below is just one example of one area of continuous provision:
CONSTRUCTION AREA
Every area of each Out of School Experience Club is extremely well thought out, based on children’s interests, including our construction area. We carefully consider all resources, both inside and outdoors, add enhancements and even detail the intended experience and the vocabulary staff members should use whilst facilitating play.
Furthermore, we complement children’s learning in school, in all seven areas of learning, namely:
· Communication and Language
· Physical Development
· Personal, Social and Emotional Development
· Literacy
· Mathematics
· Understanding the World
· Expressive Arts and Design
…….and the best bit is, children have no idea their learning and development is being comprehensively supported. They are just having fun.
Adult Led Activities
In addition to our extensive continuous provision, there are wonderful adult led activities available each day, which offer a wide selection of after school club activity ideas and opportunities. These range from fabulous crafts, scrumptious baking, awesome art, phenomenal football and so very much more. These are developed to compliment and embed each child’s learning in school and of course, to reflect their interests.
These adult led activities are, when capacity allows, can be offered to children who don’t routinely attend The Out of School Experience. This allows our children at club to access these fabulous experiences with the friends who wouldn’t ordinarily attend. And for those families who don’t require childcare, the children can access these awesome opportunities too.
Below is just one example of the activities available:
GLITTER SLIME
All our activities are extremely well planned., including our slime making, adult led activity.
Our well thought out activity planning is designed to complement children’s interests and their learning in school. Children actively engage in the fun activities, whilst embedding their learning elsewhere. Thus, their learning and development is skilfully supported without them even realising it, as they relax and have fun at the club.
Each staff member is comprehensively supported, by providing details of the materials needed, as well as a step by step guide. The planning sheet informs the purpose of the activity, the learning intention, what they will do, what they will provide and how they will differentiate (make the activity easier or harder, in order to ensure the activity in enjoyable yet challenging).
The example provided here relates to a slime making activity.
This activity supports children’s personal, social and emotional development, communication and language and understanding the world. This is provided as an example of the thought and detail that goes into every aspect of The Out of School Experience, and the comprehensive support provided to all staff.
